The current exhibit at the New York Hall of Science, Tony Hawk’s Rad Science, is all about the science behind skateboarding. This exhibit utilizes skateboarding concepts, experimentation, and interactive exhibits that strike a balance between an immediate payoff and potential for longer engagement. This is taken a step further in their Maker Space with Skateboard Making Camp. For a week, students learn geometry, simple machines, physics, materials science, and the meaning of elbow grease as they make their own skateboards. Science learning isn't just relevant here; it's necessary. If you're going to spend your spring break at the museum, you may as well just roll with it!
